Olympic Creed
The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not
to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in
life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing
is not to have conquered but to have fought well.
Olympic Oath
In the name of all competitors, I promise that we
shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding
by the rules which govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship,
for the glory of sport and the honour of our teams.

Olympic Sports for Homeschool
Consider, for a moment, that there are
sports other than high school football that may lead to fame
and fortune -- such as Olympic sports.
Dateline: 7/13/04. Updated on 6/8/08 for the 2008 Olympics in Bejing.
by Ann Zeise
Quite frequently I get emails from someone quite upset that
their homeschool child will not be allowed on the local high
school football team. They are not being allowed because "stringers"
are not allowed. There was a lot of cheating in years past with
teams trying to play older, bigger kids, kids with poor grades,
or living outside the school boundaries, but snuck on to the
teams because of their prowess. It just makes sense, when you
think of it, to only include kids whose background can be fairly
evaluated by a school.
So, what is an athletic homeschooler to do?
Consider an Olympic sport!
Many of these are individual sports, and some only require
a small team. I know of some homeschooled kids who have excelled
in swimming and fencing who have gotten college scholarships
because of their skills.
Be sure that a team or coach you sign up with is teaching
the Olymic method of that sport.
Here's a list of Olympic sports. Surely there are one or two
you could try! You will also be able to find out more about the
sport, and news about event results here.

Ancient and Past Olympics
Ancient Olympics
Were the ancient games better than ours? More fair and square?
More about sports and less about money? Are modern games more
sexist? More political? Have we strayed from the ancient Olympic
ideal?
Olympics Through Time
Bull-leaping and chariot races were once the top draws. Foot
racing has stood the test of time.
