Get Out! And Stay Out!

The first full week in October each year is Fire Prevention Week. Throughout the U.S. fire departments have open houses, demonstrations on fire safety and prevention. Call your local fire department for information. Check your TV schedule this month for fire safety programs.

GO! React Fast to Fire!

Early detection and rapid evacuation are two of your best defenses against fire.

  • Install smoke detectors on each level and near each sleeping area.
  • Test your smoke detectors weekly.
  • Change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year (when you change your clock.)
  • Prepare and practice a fire evacuation plan.
  • Have two ways out of every room.
  • Practice your alternative evacuation plan, too.
  • Have an outside meeting place.
  • Don't go back inside.
  • Call 911 from a neighbor's house.
