- The Hindenburg
by Patrick O'Brien
- Gr. 3-6. Although the Hindenburg disaster is fully
and forcefully depicted in both the text and the watercolor-and-gouache
artwork, O'Brien's picture book for older readers focuses more
on the dream the Hindenburg represented than on the tragedy.

Lee's (as this Tomboy's family nicknames her), curiosity and
keen mind get her out of many scrapes her two older brothers
get her in. Her encounters with a crazy kitten, a biscuit bowl
in a muddy field, a booby-trapped office at the National Cash
Register, and the now-famous Wright Brothers and their fantastic
flying machine, give an educational and fun glimpse into the
lives of some of the most captivating individuals our country
has produced.

- The Spirit of St. Louis
- (Scribner Classics)
by Charles A. Lindbergh
- The book is highly readable and brings to life the Golden
Era of aviation -- canvas dope-covered wings, dead-reckoning
navigation, and seat-of-the-pants flying, and delivering the
mail by airplane like the pony express. This was quite an exciting
time, and the book brings this era to life.
