Fossils

"Many dead animals of the past changed to fossils, others preferred to become oil. In some rocks you can find the fossil footprints of fishes." From Kids Quotes

Discovering Fossils
An education resource dedicated to British fossils, fossil collecting locations and the geology of the UK. Has a nice section showing how fossils form and places to go to find them. Imagine finding sharks' teeth in the middle of London!

Everything Fossils - Fossil information for Education, Collecting, and Fun
A resource of information for teachers, home school, and collectors about fossils and geologic history. Topics include fossil formation, fossil lesson plans, earth science lesson plans, fossil activities for kids,  and descriptions and pictures of many fossil groups.

Fossil Museum
Fossils across geological time presented in multiple contexts of geological history, the tree of life, paleobiology and evolution. The Virtual Fossil Museum is an educational resource providing an ever-growing extensive collection of fossil images.

Fossils of Rancho La Brea
In the heart of Los Angeles lies one of the world's richest Ice Age fossil sites. Countless plants and animals were trapped in deposits of natural asphalt and preserved as fossils. These fossils now provide us with an incredibly complete picture of what life was like as the Ice Ages drew to a close between 10,000 and 40,000 years ago.

Fossils, Rocks and Time
People who study Earth's history also use a type of calendar, called the geologic time scale. It looks very different from the familiar calendar. In some ways, it is more like a book, and the rocks are its pages.

GeoMysteries
Join Rex the Dino Detective as he solves mysteries about rocks, fossils and minerals.

Prehistoric Planet
Fossil finds, news, museums, clubs. Comprehensive site.

Sand Goop Frames or Fossils
Form a ball of sand goop - recipe included - (the size of a tennis ball) around a small rubber toy or whimsical plastic trinket. Let dry for a few days until the ball is hard. Then, tap the ball with a hammer. It will crack open to reveal the surprise!

Where to Dig
So you want to dig up a dinosaur? First, you need to know which kinds of rocks are likely to contain fossils.
