Activities for Kids Who Collect Rocks
From collecting rocks, to sorting, identifying, and displaying them, there are a lot of things you do with your collection, including playing a few games.

Activities with Rocks and Stones
This Rock-Splitting activity will surprise those who think all rocks are alike. Safety comes first with this summer activity, though. With goggles and gloves in place, kids can then start splitting rocks. Kids should first ask permission before starting this activity.

Building a Rock Collection
When you are outside having fun, keep on the look-out for some neat rocks that would be great to have in your rock collection. Of course, you will need some place to show off your cool rocks. Read on to find out how to build your own rock collection display.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mining
The purpose of this game is to give the player an introduction to the economics of mining. This is accomplished with each player buying "property", purchasing the "mining equipment", paying for the "mining operation", and finally completing the "reclamation" of their property. In return, each player receives money for the "ore mined".

Geology Crafts for Kids : 50 Nifty Projects to Explore the Marvels of Planet Earth
by Alan Anderson, et al
"I used this book with a 7th grade class of "reluctant learners" and was completely delighted by their enthusiasm. All of the projects we tried (about 3/4 of those offered) were successful. As I was operating on a low budget, I appreciated being able to use the easily found materials and ingredients listed in the procedures."

Geology Rocks! : 50 Hands-On Activities to Explore the Earth
by Cindy Blobaum, Michael P. Kline (Illustrator)
This is a wonderful introduction to concepts for your young geologist as well as a great place to find ideas for activities and experiments to aid her in her exploration of the earth.;
