Umbrella Schools

These include all forms of external help with homeschooling. Some are called umbrella schools, other programs call themselves Independent Study Programs, Distance Learning Programs, Virtual or Cyber Schools, Charter Schools, Learning Centers, and who knows what they'll come up with next.

Considering the Umbrella School Route

About Charter Schools

Homeschooling Through A Private ISP

How Will Virtual Schools Effect Homeschooling?
It is worth our while as homeschoolers to pay attention to the virtual school movement as it unfolds. If it takes off, it will change American education in ways that will influence everyone, including homeschoolers. Larry and Susan Kaseman, HEM Nov/Dec00.

National Charter School Watch List
This list is created to be a means of informing, documenting and evaluating available information concerning the impact of virtual/charter schools on the homeschooling community.

So you've decided to homeschool!
Karen Gibson comes from a state where a cover school is necessary, so this may not apply to you. But her recommendations to go slow purchasing curriculum is wise advice.

We Stand For Homeschooling
The very nature, language and essence of homeschooling are being challenged and even co-opted by a vast array of emerging educational programs which may be based in the home, but are funded by government tax dollars, bringing inevitable government controls.

Why I Will Not Sign the "We Stand for Homeschooling Statement and Resolution"
So why not sign this "We Stand for Homeschooling" statement? If I see government- or corporate-sponsored programs as close to worthless, what's the problem? by Mary Griffith
