Compulsory
Unschooling?
By Janet Lowry, HEM: I had no intention of plopping the child
in a chair at 8:30 a.m. with a workbook. Imagine my surprise
to find myself taking attendance, pretending to collect lunch
money, and saying "ding-a-ling-a-ling" for recess time.
Dealing
With Doubts
By Janet Keip. Like most unschoolers, we are convicted of the

Developing
a Homeschooling Philosophy: The Unschool Mambo
Having already been interested in issues of education, parenting

Differences
In Common
As a staunch advocate of child-led learning, it made me uncomfortable

Checklists for Unschoolers
Beginning unschoolers are often afraid. Without the touchstone

Interview
with Sandra Dodd
Sandra Dodd's vocal presence is a bright spot of lucidity. Her
mind is a virtual box of magic, her innovative ideas for learning
are just plain fun, and her passionate belief in unschooling

On
Unschooling and Life
How unsettling it is sometimes when I think that we have scoffed
at the script and now we have to take responsibility for how
it all turns out. If we'd done what was expected of us, nothing
would ever be our fault. Right? By Ruthe Matilsky, HEM M/A 01.

Response to GMA Story on Homeschooling
Recently Good Morning America did a story on radical homeschooling. The story was quite inaccurate and did not portray a typical homeschooling family. It did not even portray a typical unschooling family. It was not, as described, radical homeschooling or radical parenting. It was more like radical non-parenting.
Self-Inspired Learning
But, despite living an unremarkable existence in the depths of suburbia, my kids all manage, at one point or another, to develop an interest in a subject I never bothered to introduce. By Karen Vogel, HEM N/D 08.
Unschooling Concerns

Unschooling in World of Warcraft
"We know several kids who learned to read while playing these games," Traaseth said. "If you want to classify some of the things we're doing when we play World of Warcraft, the list could include math, reading, sociology, economics, creative writing and communications."
