Essay Writing for High School Students
Essay Writing for High School Students
by Alexander L. Terego
The book is nominally about essay writing for the SAT/ACT and application essays for College. The true message is, however, thinking. How to discover a point of view before disclosing it in the form of an essay. I have been taught by this method (Socratic Inquiry), I have taught this method at high school and college graduate level and to my employees.

Information

Different Tests, Same Flaws: A Comparison of the
SAT I, SAT II, and ACT

All three exams have a weak ability to predict academic performance in college, making high school grades/GPA and rigor of classes taken the best measures of student potential. All three exams are highly coachable, advantaging students who can afford to spend $800 or more on test preparation classes.

NCAA
Initial-eligibility procedures for homeschooled student-athletes. Which tests to take to qualify for the academic requirements for college sports and more.

Practice

SAT Preparation Software -- The Big Picture
SuperKids looked at five software programs that variously claim to raise scores, reduce anxiety, and out-smart the test-writers. Do they work? Although no rigorous studies have been published documenting their value, SuperKids believes each of the titles we tested offers the potential to improve a test-taker's performance.

I again caution you that the designation that someone is home-schooled is self-reported, and that we have no way of knowing how long they have been home-schooled. There may be many students who home-school until they get to high school, and these would not be included. Similarly, students who list themselves as home-schooled may have been so for only a year, and these would be included.
