What is to be done with a one-child demolition crew bent on dismantling everything in sight? Encourage him!

Curricular Companions
Detailed resources-complete with background content, kit enrichment, interdisciplinary connections, assessment strategies, standards, and more-tailored to the larger science theme encompassing the kit you are teaching.

Includes lots of hands-on demos and experiments for earth science projects.

Family ASTRO
The Astronomical Society of the Pacific is developing a series of hands-on astronomy kits for families on such topics as Exploring the Night Sky and Race to the Planets. Available currently in the San Francisco area only.

Helping Your Child Learn Science
Children develop their own ideas about the physical world, ideas that reflect their special perspectives. Children's experiences help them form their ideas, and these often don't match current scientific interpretations. We need to allow our children to ask questions and make mistakes without feeling "stupid."

HomeSchool 2.0
Brings you links to the best computer software, hands-on projects, literature (fiction & non-fiction) and web-resources, with a strong emphasis on learning by *doing*.

Homeschooling Resources to teach evolution NEW
The Associated Press recently reported "Top Homeschool Texts dismiss Darwin, evolution" and while I disagree with much of the article, as a homeschooler who chooses to teach my children about evolution, the headline is certainly true, and I and my friends have struggled to find homeschool-friendly science curricula that teach evolution, and don't take a creation science perspective.

Inquiry Learning
Stories about students becoming questioners, investigators and communicators. Many of these students look closely at the world around them and raise significant questions that can extend their learning remarkably.

Iridescent
The lessons are all a bit crazy (as they are designed by engineers) and focus on bringing cool, cutting-edge research to the public. Some of the topics are Cardiovascular mechanics, sports science, structural color, biomechanics, bird flight aerodynamics, physics of MRI, etc.

I. Science MaTe
Integrating Science, Math and Technology Reference Curriculum. Children learning to solve problems through science, using hands-on activities that last for a lifetime.

Insectclopedia
Loads of links with lesson ideas for the study of insects.

JASON Expeditions
Commercial Site, but I'm listing it here as many homeschool groups often enjoy doing these activities with their 9-14 year olds. Purchasing the program as a group keeps the cost down per family. Current theme is Operation: Monster Storms.

Science Karaoke
It is easy to make simple sing-along science 'karaoke' presentations in Power Point that are fun to use in class, at parties and events or for whatever your singing science heart desires.

The Scientific Method
Recognizing that personal and cultural beliefs influence both our perceptions and our interpretations of natural phenomena, we aim through the use of standard procedures and criteria to minimize those influences when developing a theory. As a famous scientist once said, "Smart people (like smart lawyers) can come up with very good explanations for mistaken points of view." In summary, the scientific method attempts to minimize the influence of bias or prejudice in the experimenter when testing an hypothesis or a theory.
