Families on the Road

Travel with the Bare Naked Family (Part II)
View Part I above as this homeschool family explains how they shed most of their "stuff" (not their clothes! This is PG) and took off with no plans other than not to have any plans. About BNF 1.0 Pages "I've got a great idea! Let's quit our jobs, sell our crap and live in an RV!" BNF 1.0 Picture Book "About five years wandering around in an RV" Here is a family that followed its dream. The experiment started in 2001 And they traveled about for five years. WandrlyMagazine.com has captured their story.

Bare Naked Family
'Barenaked' represents 'stuff' we got rid of to put our family first. We only got rid of clothing because our closets shrank! We're mostly modest around others ~ wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Deschooling on the Road
After three years of having my son learning at home, I thought that I had rid myself of my old, school-based ideas about learning and education. This summer, I discovered that I still had a lot to unlearn. By Meredith G. Warshaw.

Driven to Educate
When I tell people what we're doing I usually get "Take me with you!" or "Have you lost your mind?" The answer is, I lost my balance, but our family gained some much needed clarity.

Extended World Travel
Maria answers the question, "I'd Love to Take a Long Trip but my Children are in School." As we see it, the meaning of education is to learn about the world we live in, how to survive and function in it and how to socialize and cooperate with its people.

Family On A Bike
We believe environmentally sensitive family adventures are good for your health, education, relationships and the planet. The Family Adventure Project aims to inspire others to get out there and start or keep on adventuring by showcasing inspiring stories from families around the world who adventure together.

Family on Bikes
We will be taking off in June 2008 to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina - a journey that will take approximately 2 1/2 years! The trip is now over. "The definitive guide to bike touring with kids" is now a book.

The Gefke Family Adventure
High point of this site is Christa's Journal as she documents her observations and opinions about what she's learned on her family's trip.

The Goza Family
Dennis, Kimberly and Zephyr Goza left their home in San Francisco 12 years ago to perform professionally at schools and libraries across the United States as "The Act!vated Storytellers." They relish exploring America, touring across the country year-round to ambitiously seek out new experiences that enrich their homeschool studies.

Happy Trails
A Homeschool Journey Across the United States. Have you ever dreamed of selling everything, quitting your job, and homeschooling your children as you travel across the country? This is exactly what we did! By Melissa Emery. HEM J/A01.

Have School Will Travel
Mark, Denise and Vance Tyson are a traveling homeschool family, right now we're are on a three month trip across the Northeastern United States, and hope to take another one next spring out west. We live very near Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Mark has a great article "Why homeschool?" on the site worth reading.

Journal of a Homeschooling Mom
AN A to Z ARTICLE
Learning happens so often outside our home, while on extensive vacations or just in town. By Anne Salazar-Dunbar.

Live the Adventure
Originally from Ohio, my family has spent the past 3 1/2 years traveling with my husband's job. This past March, we took a leap of faith and became a full-time RV family! Our life is at times challenging, constantly changing and rarely boring. Great travel tips, "Thanks to the many electronic advances in the past decade, long trips aren't nearly as painfully boring now as they were when I was growing up. My teenagers have the luxury of watching DVD's, playing Xbox, texting their friends and updating their Facebook profile all along our route. On our 1,000 mile trip to Florida"

Living on the Road
The Page family has been homeschooling their kids, starting when the kids were (9, 8, 5, and 2), and have been traveling around Australia in a caravan for a year already and have no plans to stop. Great blog about visiting the cities of Sydney, Broome, and articles like "Swimming with the Sea Lions".

A Long Weekend? How About a Whole Year?
A growing number of American families with school-age children are turning their wanderlust into reality, say travel experts. New York Times.

Our LOUD Family
Six For The Road. "It is hard to go from 3500 square feet to 300 square feet. We have four kids. Two girls 15 and 13 and two boys 12 and 10. We also have 3 dogs and a little hamster. Life in an RV can get really crowded and hectic but it is fun." said Kati Loud. The show was on the air in 2008. You can watch the show on Hulu. Some have said that it's the worst portrayal of homeschoolers. Others think it is a great show. If you are planning to travel with kids and home school take a look and see it this is for your family.

Soul Travelers 3
We are on the ultimate unschool adventure of a multi year, open ended trip around the world with our young homeschooled student and the focus of our website has been to leave resources for other families as we go on what works for kids that travel while homeschooling and how to do it. Our main reason for homeschooling and travel: "Our daughter's education and exposure to the wonders of the world has been a primary motivation, along with a desire to immerse her deeply in her second language and culture. We believe in community-based education and see the world as our global community."

Travelin' With The Kid
After our trip to the Everglades, we went to Captiva and then on to Key West, a grueling schedule as I am sure you can imagine. Once that leg of our journey was completed, I traveled to see my friend in Grand Cayman. Everyone should travel to the Cayman Islands! A homeschool mom's blog of their travels.

What I learned as a home-school parent
With New York City as the classroom, Jane Blotzer spent a year teaching her two children about... everything. Here's her report card.

Home Exchanges

We give you the ability to visit many places in the world and stay for free! "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page!" This is a great idea connecting home school families from around the world, one huge homeschooling travel association.

We love to "hit the road" and the longer we have been homeschooling, the easier it becomes! By Amy Cortez.

Car Schooling
At one point, we were spending so much time in the car we didn't have time for academics! In sheer desperation I thought of books-on-tape and now books on IPAD's, Kindles and DVD's - at least we'd hear some good literature and I could relax a little about fulfilling our Language Arts requirement.
